Birdhouses should be located in habitats that the birds frequent. Close to trees, near vegetation and in proximity to food sources such as grass or open fields. Assuring that there is a clear flight path for the bird to have easy access is important. Chickadees often like nests close to shrubs and small trees they spend time in.
